ART EDUCATORS SPECIAL ARTIST RESIDENCY

This residency is designed for emerging and mid-career, national and international art educators age 25 and over, of diverse approaches and experience, who are interested in developing educational projects and pedagogic methods in a museum setting and promoting multicultural dialogue by addressing social themes through the arts.

The Art Educators Special Artist Residency is a unique opportunity to work at prominent museums, schools, or art centers in Puebla with diverse groups of students from 6 to 18 years old. Projects should make an emphasis on both the process and the end result, promoting activities in which students play an active role, integrating the cultural-exchange experience as part of the teaching-learning process. All proposals should include
 
1. an introduction describing the educational approach, pedagogic references, etc.;
2. a description of the proposed activities, goals, target students, equipment and materials needed;
3. a description of the expected educational outcomes.

RESIDENCY DURATION / TIME PERIOD
Term of 4 weeks, with option to extend for 1 to 9 more weeks as a self-directed Art Production Residency. Dates are not predetermined but are nominated by the applicant.
 
WHAT THIS RESIDENCY INCLUDES
Staff Support:
  • Each resident meets weekly with our staff for individualized research assistance/resources, project guidance and coordination, and critiques
Accommodation and Meals - PUEBLA:
  • Furnished, private bedroom
  • Meals and 24-hour access to the kitchen and dining room
  • Wireless Internet
  • Use of Arquetopia's residency spaces including 4th-floor lounge and outdoor terraces
  • Shared bathrooms with modern fixtures and showers
  • Housekeeping

Studio Workspace - Puebla:

  • 24-hour access to large and bright, shared art studio with generous natural light
  • Personal workspace with large table and wall space
  • Some tools provided
  • Equipped darkroom provided for photographers
  • Some materials included
  • For self-directed residencies, artists bring their own materials and supplies or obtain them locally
  • Access to special facilities (such as our partnered museums or schools) provided

Accommodation, Meals, and Local Transportation - OAXACA:

  • Furnished, private bedroom
  • Meals and 24-hour access to the kitchen and dining room
  • Wireless Internet
  • Private bathrooms with modern fixtures and showers
  • Housekeeping
  • Though cheap, everyday public transportation is also available from the residency vicinity into the city, Arquetopia provides scheduled transportation into downtown Oaxaca twice per week by van
Studio Workspace - OAXACA:
  • Individual live/work space with natural light provided with table or desk
  • 24-hour access to larger, shared studio with generous natural light
  • Personal workspace with large table
  • Some tools provided
  • Some materials included
  • For self-directed residencies, artists bring their own materials and supplies or obtain them locally
